ISC 2025 is the 40th anniversary of the world’s leading forum for advancing the application of high performance computing in academia, government, and the private sector. The goal of this annual event is to foster a global exchange of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration in the field.

ISC connects scientists, engineers, and technology leaders to explore the future of high performance computing. We will examine today’s breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, high performance computing and quantum technologies, as well as what lies ahead.

Additionally, we are committed to sustainability by promoting energy-efficient and cost-effective computing, while empowering the next-generation workforce to continue the community’s legacy of innovation.

ISC 2027 takes place during the week of June 7–11, 2027 in Hamburg, Germany.

CONNECTING THE DOTS

ISC brings together a mix of people from different backgrounds and areas of expertise to drive HPC. Whether you are just entering the field, in a mid-level position, a part of senior management, or a student, we welcome you to join our efforts to connect people and technologies.

High performance computing (HPC) has made significant strides over the last half-century, transitioning from the megascale era of the 1970s to the current exascale era. Over the past few decades, this technology has supported an array of increasingly computationally intensive applications in science, engineering, and business.

Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at an even faster pace than HPC. Still, it depends on the massive computational power and data throughput capabilities of high performance hardware to build and run its applications.

At the same time, quantum computing is emerging as a new and groundbreaking paradigm. While it differs from classical computing, many quantum applications are closely aligned with existing HPC workloads that could be significantly accelerated under this new paradigm. Likewise, combining quantum computing with AI has the potential to accelerate the training of AI models and data analysis.

The synergy that could result from merging HPC, AI, and quantum computing is an exciting prospect. And given the insatiable demand for performance to accelerate scientific discoveries and commercial applications, integrating these technologies is not just an academic goal, but an economic imperative.

With that in mind, we invite the community of research and commercial users, system developers, and service providers to join the journey of connecting the dots.

AMANDA RANDLES

Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, USA

Rio Yokota is a Professor at the Supercomputing Research Center, Institute of Integrated Research, Institute of Science Tokyo. He also leads the AI for Science Foundation Model Research Team at RIKEN Center for Computational Science. His research interests lie at the intersection of high performance computing, machine learning, and linear algebra. He has been optimizing algorithms on GPUs since 2007, and was part of a team that received the Gordon Bell prize in 2009 using the first GPU supercomputer. More recently, he has been leading distributed training efforts on Japanese supercomputers such as ABCI, TSUBAME, and Fugaku. He is the co-developer of the Japanese LLM Swallow, and LLM-jp. He is also involved in the organization of multinational collaborations such as ADAC and TPC.

Amanda Randles is the Alfred Winborne Mordecai and Victoria Stover Mordecai Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, where she also serves as Director of the Duke Center for Computational and Digital Health Innovation. Her research focuses on the development of patient-specific digital twin models that integrate high performance computing, machine learning, and multiscale biophysical simulations to enable proactive diagnosis and treatment of diseases ranging from cardiovascular disease to cancer. Her contributions have been recognized with the ACM Prize in Computing, the NIH Pioneer Award, the NSF CAREER Award, the ACM Grace Hopper Award, the Jack Dongarra Early Career Award, and the Sony and Nature Women in Technology Award. Randles received her Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University, an M.S. in Computer Science from Harvard, and a B.A. in Computer Science and Physics from Duke. Prior to graduate school, she worked as a software engineer at IBM on the Blue Gene supercomputing team.

ISC 2026 Concludes with Record Attendees and TOP500 Moves to ACM

The ISC 2026 event concluded last Friday, drawing 4,035 attendees from 64 countries for five days of discussions on the latest advancements in supercomputing. Participants also witnessed the announcement of a transition in the community's most-watched benchmark, as stewardship of the TOP500 project passed to Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

As the main conference program concludes this afternoon, we are pleased to announce that Professor Rio Yokota, a prominent researcher working at the intersection of high performance computing, artificial intelligence, and linear algebra, will take the helm as the program chair for ISC 2027.
