Dr. Kent Milfeld

Kent Milfeld received his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin. He taught Chemistry at the University of Houston before joining the newly formed Center for High Performance Computing at UT in 1987. Kent has spent 25 years at the center in various capacities from user support, training coordinator, research and management. Throughout the last 10 years he has taught popular Parallel Computing and Scientific Computing courses at the university, contributed to papers involving architecture and performance of new systems at TACC, and has managed the Performance and Architecture group. Kent has developed and presented many of the training modules on effective and efficient usage of TACC’s HPC systems. The object of his training presentations is to expose methods of mapping programming paradigms to hardware, formulating codes that are efficient and obtain the highest possible performance.
