Dr. Damian Borth

Director, Deep Learning Competence Center, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence
 

Dr. Damian Borth is the Director of the Deep Learning Competence Center at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern. His research focuses on large-scale multimedia opinion mining applying machine learning to mine attention (trends) and polarity (sentiment) towards particular topics from social media streams. Before this position he was a postdoctoral research fellow at UC Berkeley and the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley where he was involved in various initiatives sponsored by the public sector and big data efforts at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Damian received his PhD from the University of Kaiserslautern and was during this time also a visiting researcher at the Digital Video and Multimedia Lab at Columbia University. His work has been awarded by the Best Paper Award at ACM ICMR 2012 and the McKinsey Business Technology Award 2011.
