Dr. Weicheng Huang

Dr. Weicheng Huang is currently a full time research fellow as well as Division Director of Software Technology Division of National Center for High-performance Computing (NCHC) in Taiwan. After graduated from UIUC with a Ph.D. degree in year 1994, Weicheng has worked as Assistant Research Fellow in Academia Sinica in Taiwan (1994~1998), Research Scientist of NCSA in the US (1998~2001), and the division chief of Parallel Processing Division in NCHC (2001 ~ 2008). He also served as the Deputy Director in charge of HPC, Grid Computing and Cloud activities in NCHC (2009 ~ 2012). In recent years, he has devoted himself to the establishment of the national cyberinfrastructure along with cyberenvironment; building the TB level of national distributed storage system, and pushing the envelop of national computing power. With experience of first commodity cluster serving the research community, he built the first computing power of TeraFlops level (KM cluster, 2.0 TF), and the first computing facility that exceeded the 100TF level (ALPS, 177.0 TF) for the country, the ALPS. The ALPS is still the largest supercomputer serving the academia community in Taiwan. In addition to the continuing work of promoting supercomputing power of the country, Weicheng has served as PI and co-PI of several national projects over the past years, including National Grid Project (KING), Distributed Backup System of National Digital Archive, Testbed@TWISC, Consortium for Climate Change Study, Bioinformatic Consortium of Taiwan, and most recentely, the National Cloud Initiative for Scientific Research and Technology Development. His professional research interest covers numerical simulation, parallel processing, distributed computing, Grid and Cloud Computing.
