Dr. Edward Smyth

Edward has been at NAG since 1999 and the leader of the HPC group since 2008. He has worked on OpenMP parallel routines for NAG and other vendor libraries, was jointly responsible for the hardware benchmarks for both the HECToR and ARCHER supercomputer procurements in the UK, and helped lead the CSE support team at NAG working on HECToR and HPC Wales. Current work includes improving vectorisation in NAG routines for better performance on architectures such as Intel Xeon Phi, and consultancy projects for industrial customers of NAG. Edward gained a PhD in "Theory and Computation of Atoms in Intense Laser Fields" and a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Physics at Queen's University Belfast.
