Benoit Morel

Benoit Morel is a PhD student at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies in Germany since October 2016. He received his master’s degree in computer science from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Informatique et de Mathématiques Appliquées de Grenoble (ENSIMAG), where he mainly studied scientific computing, 3D rendering and C++ code optimization. After completing his studies, he worked for four years in industry at Dassault Systemes, in Paris. He was responsible of the 3DIndex, a component aimed to index huge industrial products containing millions of pieces and to provide efficient queries relying on 3D criterias. He now works on reducing the memory footprint and execution time of phylogenetic inference tools. To this end, he studies methods which explore the properties/patterns of the input data (molecular sequences) with the aim of deploying them on supercomputers. His current research interests are phylogenetic inference, parallel computing and code optimization.
