Abstract:   The Energy oriented Centre of Excellence in computing applications (EoCoE) project is one of the 8 centres of excellence in computing applications established within the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Commission. The aim of the project is to favour scientific advances in four renewable energy pillars: meteo, materials, water and nuclear fusion by providing high-end expertise in applied mathematics and HPC. Many applications from pillars run on very large supercomputers and a great deal of effort is made for improving algotithms and numerical methods. However, even if the computational part of a code scales very well over thousands of cores, global performances may be degraded by poor I/O techniques. We present the I/O benchmarking methodology of EoCoE project. The purpose of this activity is to find and remove I/O bottlenecks of applications from the pillars.
