DescriptionThe OpenMP standard continues to evolve. After OpenMP Technical Report 6 last year, the next major version of the standard (OpenMP version 5.0) is expected to be released in November. In this BoF, we will have a set of short presentations (15 minutes worth in all) from OpenMP experts who have been involved in the design of features for OpenMP 5.0. We will then spend the remaining time answering questions from the audience and having a discussion about the future evolution of OpenMP.

OpenMP 5.0 will extend OpenMP features in many directions, including greater expressiveness to allow a less prescriptive and more descriptive way of implementing parallelism in code, better support for modern accelerators, support for more control of memory allocation in machines with multiple memory types, and many other important extensions.

This BoF is an opportunity for the attendees to discover where OpenMP is going and question its designers (Bronis de Supisnki, the chair of the Language Committee will be present) so that attendees understand how they will be able to exploit the new OpenMP features in their codes. It also a great opportunity for the OpenMP Architecture Review Board to engage with the community and get their feedback to help to drive OpenMP's future directions.

OpenMP is a critical technology for HPC and BoFs like this are an important way for the community both to understand and influence the way in which it continues to evolve.
