DescriptionCoupled systems and their forward or inverse simulation have become solvable base on advances both in numerical methods and algorithms and in hardware. Their potential lies in a very high accuracy enabled by the complex underlying physical models. To fully exploit this potential, e.g., by matching resolution to model accuracy, further methodological developments are required. To achieve those requires a holistic view on hardware, implementation, algorithms and mathematical methods going far beyond optimized linear algebra. We will highlight this for three example applications: surface-coupled fluid-structure-acoustic simulation, inverse brain tumor growth simulation, and skeletal muscle simulation.
