DescriptionWOPSSS aims to present state-of-the-art research, innovative ideas, and experience that focus on the design and implementation of HPC storage systems in both academic and industrial worlds, with a special interest on their performance analysis.
The solution to Exascale problem seems elusive, the renewed effervescence in processor architectures leads to uncertainties, and from a strict storage perspective Storage Class Memory appeared to be more difficult than expected to be brought to the market.
Still according to the storage point of view it is now acknowledged than HPDA and Analytics exhibit strong difference in term of IO patterns in respect to HPC applications. The questioning about performance portability of storage system across a large board of IO patterns has been well captured with the IO500 effort.
Therefore, we advocate that the need for performance monitoring, analysis has never been as acute than nowadays. From an application standpoint, but also at the middleware level with collective operations in or delegation in the MPI-IO, or at a system level with the overhead of virtualization.
At it modest scale WOPSSS is trying to contribute to bring quantitative information to the debate and to help new ideas to arise.
