DescriptionWe have created the ISC STEM Student Day & Gala to welcome science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students into the world of HPC, demonstrate how technical skills can propel their future careers, introduce them to the current job landscape, and also show them what the HPC workforce will look like in 2020 and beyond.
The ISC STEM Student Day & Gala sign up is now officially closed as we have reached 200 participants. However if you are interested in being added to the waiting list, please contact communications@isc-group.com. |

DescriptionDeveloping and supporting HPC applications requires more than just skill in using programming systems such as MPI, OpenMP, and CUDA. Some of the issues that HPC users face every day include data management, performance and correctness debugging, integration with workflows, and limitations in the available programming systems and their implementations. This session will describe current work to address some of these issues and provide a forum for the audience to ask questions about the issues they face in developing and supporting HPC applications. |

DescriptionNowadays, various types of quantum computing devices with largely varying numbers of qubits are available for pioneer users. These pioneers have cloud-based access to several gate-based quantum computers (IBM, Google, Riggetti Computing, Alibaba, …) with up to 20 qubits and to a quantum annealer of D-Wave Systems with more than 2000 qubits, the latter system also being available for purchase.
Apart from academic interest in quantum computing to simulate quantum many-body systems in physics, materials science and chemistry there is also interest shown by aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, financial, chemical and pharmaceutical industries in this new computing platform. For these industries, among others, fault tree analysis, risk mitigation, optimization, scheduling, and machine learning play an important role.
In this session, apart from an introduction to the difference between programming a gate-based quantum computer and a quantum annealer, prototype applications of these new computing technologies in science and industry will be discussed. |
