Biography
Robert received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). His early career work focused on scalable modeling of semiconductor manufacturing as well as multi-scale physics for semiconductor device and circuit performance, Xyce, in extreme environments. Robert was also a founding contributor to the Trilinos project focusing on scalable performance of the core sparse linear algebra capabilities. Both of these projects were recipients of R&D100 awards. Over the last decade, he has managed a broad range of HPC capabilities including electrical systems modeling, applied mathematics, scalable algorithms and scalable architectures. Robert has most recently led the US DOE NNSA Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program’s Co-design activities and leads Sandia’s efforts to explore innovative HPC architectures in support of the US Exascale Computing Project and the National Strategic Computing Initiative.
