Alex received his B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of South
Carolina – Columbia in May of 2017. Since August of 2017, he has been a graduate researcher
in Juan Perilla’s laboratory at the University of Delaware in the department of chemistry and
biochemistry working toward his PhD. The Perilla laboratory studies largescale biological
systems with high-performance computational methods, using massively parallel
supercomputers, heterogeneous architectures and parallel algorithms to extend the timescale
and size of all-atom simulations to describe biologically relevant structures in physiological
contexts. Alex’s work focuses on the development and design of new computational tools and
methods, such as application of empirical data to molecular dynamics simulation for structural
refinement and deep-learning approaches to structural feature prediction.
