DescriptionStarting with a brief historical review on high performance computing in China, this talk presents the current efforts of China’s national key project on exascale computing. After discussing the technical challenges, the talk proposes some major research issues on exascale computing. The current research activities carried out by the key R&D project are then summarized and presented, including the efforts on exascale prototypes, exascale application software and software development support, and high performance computing environment enabling the effective use of the exascale computers. Perspectives and some open issues are raised towards the end of this talk.
