ISC 2021 Student Cluster Competition

The ISC 2021 Student Cluster Competition (SCC) enables international teams of university students to showcase their expertise in a friendly yet spirited competition that fosters critical skills, professional relationships, competitive spirit and lifelong comraderies.

Now in its 11th year and held in partnership with the HPC-AI Advisory Council (HPCAIAC), 11 student teams will have the opportunity to showcase systems of their own design, with the goal to achieve the highest performance across a series of standard HPC benchmarks and applications.

The competition will run on The National Supercomputing Center (NSCC), Singapore’s Aspire supercomputer, and the University of Toronto’s Niagara supercomputer. The competition will kick off May 24 and end July 1, culminated by an award ceremony.

ISC SCC 2020 Summary

For the first time in the competition’s history, the ISC SCC was conducted in an “all virtual” digital format, with supercomputing resources provided exclusively by the National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore. During the conference, the HPC-AI Advisory Council (HPCAIAC) and the ISC Group revealed the teams topping the 2020 leaderboard:

First Place: University of Science and Technology of China (USTC, China)
Second Place: Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC, South Africa)
Third Place: Tsinghua University (TU, China)
Honorable Mention: Nanyang Technological University (NTU, Singapore)
Fan Favorite: Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC, Catalonia/Spain)

A total of eighty-two students spread across eleven locations around the world took part in this year’s ISC SCC competition. We congratulate all the winners and thank the other teams that participated in this year’s competition.
