Reinventing HPC

ISC 2020 CONTRIBUTED PROGRAM CALLS FOR SUBMISSION

Participation is open for Research Papers, Research Posters, Project Posters, BoFs, PhD Forum, Tutorials and Workshops

FRANKFURT, Germany, September 16, 2019 – The entire ISC High Performance 2020 Contributed Program is now open for submissions. We encourage engineers, scientists, young researchers, students and active members of the global HPC community to participate in the 2020 conference. Submissions are welcome in the following sessions: Research Papers, Research Posters, Project Posters, Birds of a Feather (BoF), PhD Forum, Tutorials, and Workshops.

Some of the sessions provide travel assistance, awards, and the opportunity to publish presented research in reputable international journals.

The organizers want to emphasize that it is an active community participation that ultimately creates a rich and diverse contributed program at the conference. In return, contributors will enjoy the opportunity to share their ideas, knowledge and interests in a welcoming setting, while also getting the chance to connect with a wide network of people and organizations in the HPC space.

ISC 2020 will be held from June 21 through June 25, 2020, in Frankfurt, Germany, and will be attended by over 3,700 attendees and 160 exhibitors. The event will continue its long-standing tradition as the largest networking platform for vendors and users involved in supercomputing, machine learning, big data, cloud computing, networking and storage.

Areas of Interest

Particular areas of interest for the 2020 conference are listed below. They apply to all the different types of sessions. Note, however, that submissions on other innovative aspects of high performance computing are also welcome.

  • System Architecture
  • Applications/Algorithms
  • Emerging Technologies
  • Parallel Programming Models & Performance Modelling
  • Machine Learning
  • Industrial HPC

Research Papers

The ISC Research Paper sessions, held from June 22 through June 24, 2020, will provide world-class opportunities for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to present and discuss issues, trends, and results that will shape the future of high performance computing, networking, storage and AI/machine learning.

Each submission will be peer-reviewed double-blind by at least four reviewers based on their novelty, fundamental insights and potential for long-term contribution.

The ISC organizers will grant a 100 percent discount on the conference day pass to one presenter per paper for the day of their presentation. The most outstanding papers will qualify for the Hans Meuer Award or the GAUSS Award. The Hans Meuer Award winner will receive a cash prize of €5,000. All accepted research papers will be published in the Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series in Gold Open Access, which means the final versions of accepted papers will be freely and permanently accessible for everyone.

Tutorials

The ISC Tutorials are presented as interactive courses focusing on key aspects of HPC, networking, storage, and data science. Renowned experts in their respective fields will give attendees a comprehensive introduction to their chosen topic, as well as provide a closer look at specific problems related to that topic. All tutorials will be held on June 21, 2020, in either full-day or half-day sessions. Including a “hands-on” component is encouraged in order to allow attendees to practice prepared materials.

Tutorial presenters from academia may receive travel support between €150 and €500, depending on their region of travel, and fee waiver on the tutorial pass.

PhD Forum

The PhD Forum provides an opportunity for PhD students to present research results in a setting that sparks scientific exchange and lively discussions. The forum is comprised of two parts: a set of back-to-back lighting talks, followed by a poster presentation session. The lightning talks are meant to provide a brief presentation of research objectives and early results, while the poster provides a starting point for engaging discussions with more in-depth information.

Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the ISC 2020 PhD Forum Program Committee. One student will receive the PhD Forum Award, sponsored by Springer, after the poster session on June 22, 2020. The committee is currently working on securing travel funding for students whose proposals are selected. One presenter will receive full fee waiver for the day of presentation.

Workshops

The ISC Workshops provide attendees with a focused and in-depth platform for presentations, discussions, and interactions on topics related to all aspects of high performance computing. The half-day and full-day workshops will be held on June 25, 2020.

Be aware that there are two submission deadlines associated with the workshops. The pre-submission deadline on November 27, 2019 applies to workshops that want to disseminate their own call for papers and implement a peer-review process. Proposals for “regular” workshops without calls for papers should be submitted by February 12, 2019.

Birds of a Feather

These informal BoF sessions bring together like-minded people to discuss current HPC topics, network and share ideas. Each session will be allocated 60 minutes to address a specific topic and will be led by one or more individuals with expertise in the relevant area. BoFs tend to have a more informal nature compared to panels, research paper presentations, tutorials, and vendor talks. If you are interested in hosting a BoF, please refer to the topics and submission guidelines on the ISC website.

The BoFs Committee will review all submitted proposals based on their originality, significance, quality, clarity, and diversity with respect to the overall diversity goals of the conference. Each proposal will be evaluated by at least three reviewers.

The BoF sessions will be held from June 22 through June 24, 2020.

Research Posters

The ISC Research Poster session is an excellent opportunity to present your latest research results, projects and innovations to a global audience, including your HPC peers. Poster authors will have the opportunity to give short presentations on their posters on June 23, 2020, and to informally present them to the attendees during all conference lunch and coffee breaks.

All submitted posters will be double-blind reviewed by at least three reviewers. The accepted research posters will be displayed from June 22 to June 24, 2020. The ISC organizers will sponsor the call for research posters with eight cash awards and certificates for outstanding research posters. Each ISC Research Poster Award is made of a cash prize of €250 and a certificate. A free conference day pass will be given to one presenter per poster.

Project Posters

The popular Project Poster session enables submitters to share their research ideas and projects at ISC. The session provides scientists with a platform for information exchange, whereas for the attendees it is an opportunity to gain an overview of new developments, HPC research and engineering activities. In contrast to the dissemination of research results in the research poster sessions, project posters enable participants to present ongoing and emerging projects by sharing new ideas, methodologies and preliminary work. Researchers with upcoming and recently funded projects are encouraged to submit a poster of their work. Those with novel project ideas are invited to present as well.

All accepted project posters will be displayed from June 23 through June 24, 2020 at a prominent location in the exhibition hall. During the coffee breaks on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, ISC attendees will have the opportunity to meet the authors at their posters to discuss the projects.

ISC 2020 Publicity Chair

In a recently defined role, Prof. Carsten Trinitis of Technische Universität München (TUM) has been appointed as the ISC Publicity Chair, who will be liaising with all the individual program chairs to successfully disseminate the ISC Calls for Contribution to the academic HPC audience.
