Reinventing HPC

ISC 2019 IS NOW OPEN FOR REGISTRATION

FRANKFURT, Germany, April 2, 2019 – Early registration is now open for ISC High Performance, the largest high performance computing forum in Europe. By registering between now and May 8 for the full conference pass, attendees will be able to save over 45 percent off the onsite registration rates.

The ISC High Performance conference and exhibition will be held from June 16 - 20 at Messe Frankfurt, and the event expects over 3,500 attendees. To cater to different needs, four event passes are available: conference, exhibition, tutorial and workshop. Be aware that the tutorials and workshops require separate registrations.

The 2019 Program

This year’s event will get underway on Sunday, June 16, with 22 tutorials, presented as full-day, and half-day sessions, split between the morning and afternoon. They were selected to expand the horizons of HPC professionals, as well as provide a foundation for those newer to the community.

The day of tutorials will be followed in the evening with the Pre-Conference Party, giving attendees who arrive on the weekend a chance to catch up and relax with colleagues before the busy week ahead. To sign up for the festivities, follow the Pre-Conference Party link under the Networking Activities page.

The main conference program will kick off on Monday, June 17, with a Welcome Breakfast, and Opening Session. The highlight of the morning will be the conference keynote, this year delivered by Professor Ivo Sbalzarini, who hold positions at TU Dresden and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology. Under the title, The Algorithms of Life - Scientific Computing for Systems Biology, Sbalzarini’s keynote will discuss the fascinating intersection between HPC and systems biology.

Monday will also feature the release of the 53rd TOP500 list. The morning session will include a presentation of awards based on the latest results of the TOP500, Green500, and High Performance Conjugate Gradients (HPCG) benchmarks. TOP500 author Erich Strohmaier will discuss highlights of the new list.

The ISC exhibition also begins on Monday, capped off by the Exhibition Party in the evening. This year’s event will showcase more than 160 exhibitors, including key vendors, research organizations and universities engaged in the HPC community. The three-day exhibition runs through Wednesday, June 19. Taking place in parallel to the exhibition are the Exhibitor Forums, which will highlight the work of selected companies and organizations.

ISC High Performance will also bring back the Industrial Day and Machine Learning Day tracks, reflecting two important themes that have reshaped the modern HPC landscape. The Industrial Day takes place on Tuesday, June 18, and is designed to introduce businesses to use cases in which HPC technologies were employed to increase the competitive capacity of these companies. The Machine Learning Day will explore how these AI technologies are being incorporated into high performance computing architectures and applications. It takes place on Wednesday, June 19. Both tracks require a conference pass.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also feature their own keynotes. On Tuesday, Berkeley Lab’s John Shalf will discuss the impact of the demise of Moore’s Law on technology roadmaps critical to HPC, followed on Wednesday by Indiana University’s Thomas Sterling, who will deliver his time-honored presentation on what has been achieved over the past year in high performance computing.

Wednesday will also feature ISC’s HPC in Asia track, which will reflect research and technology developments in the region. Mitsuhisa Sato of RIKEN, Japan, will discuss his organization’s exascale software project; Jidong Zhai, from Tsinghua University in China, will speak on large-scale scientific simulations; and Hirotaka Tamura, a representative from Fujitsu Laboratories, will present his company’s quantum-inspired digital annealer.

For those who enjoy the back-and-forth of interactive forums, the conference offers three panel discussions that address a trio of unique topics: what HPC will look like in 2030, how to facilitate the commercial use of AI, and what to do about the proliferation of parallel programming technologies.

As usual, there will be no shortage of both academic and commercial content. On the academic side, the conference will offer attendees the Research Paper, Research Poster and Project Poster sessions, as well as the PhD Forum. A wide array of topical Birds-of-a-Feather sessions will also be spread through the week. For the more commercially-minded, the always-entertaining and informative Vendor Showdown sessions on Monday will provide HPC companies the opportunity to present their latest products and strategies in a fast-paced, dynamic format.

Besides, the TOP500 awards already mentioned, the Hans Meuer Award and the Gauss Award will be given to the best research papers in 2019. Awards will be also handed out to teams participating in the HPCAC-ISC Student Cluster Competition, which is now in its eight year.

The conference will conclude on Thursday, June 20 with half-day and full-day workshops held at the nearby Marriott Hotel.

The conference agenda planner is now online and contains the full program and enables attendees to plan their schedules efficiently. For general information about the conference, attendees can refer to the Attendee Info.

The organizers encourage attendees to register early and also to look into their travel plans. To find out about the ISC 2019 partner hotels and other travel information, click here.
