Reinventing HPC

THE ENTIRE ISC 2019 CONTRIBUTED PROGRAM IS NOW OPEN

Participation is Open for Research Papers, Research Posters, Project Posters, BoFs, PhD Forum, Tutorials and Workshops

FRANKFURT, Germany, October 18, 2018 – The complete ISC High Performance 2019 contributed program is now open for submissions. We encourage engineers, scientists, young researchers, students and active members of the global HPC community to participate in next year’s conference. Submissions are welcome in the following sessions: Research Papers, Research Posters, Project Posters, BoFs, PhD Forum, Tutorials and Workshops.

Please note that some of the sessions provide travel assistance, awards and the opportunity to publish the presented research in reputable international journals.

The organizers would like to emphasize here that it is the active community participation that ultimately creates a rich and diverse contributed program at the conference. In return, contributors will enjoy the opportunity to share their ideas, knowledge and interests in a welcoming setting, and also get the chance to meet a wide network of people and organizations in the HPC space.

ISC 2019 will be held from June 16 – 20, 2019, in Frankfurt, Germany, and will be attended by over 3,500 attendees and 160 exhibitors. The event will continue its tradition as the largest networking platform for vendors and users interested in supercomputing, machine learning, big data, cloud computing, networking and storage.

Research Papers

The ISC Research Paper sessions, held from June 17 – 19, provide world-class opportunities for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to present and discuss issues, trends, and results that will shape the future of high performance computing, networking, storage and AI/machine learning.

Each submission will be peer-reviewed double-blind by at least four reviewers based on their novelty, fundamental insights and potential for long-term contribution.

The ISC organizers will grant a 100 percent discount on the conference day pass to one presenter per paper for the day of their presentation. The most outstanding papers will qualify for the Hans Meuer Award or the GAUSS Award. All accepted research papers will be published in the Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Tutorials

The ISC Tutorials are interactive courses focusing on key topics of HPC, networking, storage, and data science. Held on June 16, renowned experts in their respective fields will give attendees a comprehensive introduction to the topic, as well as provide a closer look at specific problems in either full-day or half-day tutorials.

Tutorial presenters are encouraged to include a “hands-on” component to allow attendees to practice prepared materials. The areas we are interested in are listed in the call for Research Papers. Additional topics that expand broader community engagement or innovative and emerging HPC technologies, such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are highly encouraged.

Tutorial presenters from academia may receive travel support between 150 and 500 euro, depending on their region of travel.

PhD Forum

The PhD Forum provides an opportunity for PhD students to present research results in a setting that sparks scientific exchange and lively discussions. It consists of two parts: a set of back-to-back lighting talks, followed by a poster presentation session. The lightning talks are meant to give a brief, to-the-point presentation of research objectives and early results, while the poster provides a starting point for engaging discussions with more in-depth information.

Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the ISC 2019 PhD Forum Program Committee. An award and travel funding are available to students whose proposals are selected. Detailed information is offered here. The PhD Forum will be held June 17, 2019.

Workshops

The ISC Workshops, held on June 20, provide attendees with a focused and in-depth platform for presentations, discussion and interaction in topics related to all aspects of HPC. Proposals are sought in research, development, and application of large-scale, high-performance experimental and commercial in HPC computer architecture and hardware, programming models, system software, performance analysis and modeling, compiler analysis and optimization techniques, applications, deep learning, artificial intelligence, solutions for heterogeneity, reliability, and power efficiency of systems, as well as how those areas relate to big data and cloud computing.

The pre-submission deadline, which is for workshops that want to disseminate their own call for papers and implement a peer-review process, is November 28, 2018. Proposals for “regular” workshops without calls for papers should be submitted by February 13, 2019.

Birds of a Feather

These informal BoF sessions bring together like-minded people to discuss current HPC topics, network and share ideas. Each session will be allocated 60 minutes to address a different topic and will be led by one of more individuals with expertise in the relevant area. BoFs are different in nature from panels, research paper sessions, tutorials, vendor talks, and other, more presentation-oriented parts of the ISC contributed program. If you are interested in hosting a BoF, please refer to the topics and submission guidelines on the ISC website.

The BoFs Committee will review all submitted proposals based on their originality, significance, quality, clarity, and diversity with respect to the overall diversity goals of the conference. Each proposal will be evaluated by at least three reviewers.

The BoF sessions will be held from June 17 through June 19, 2019.

Research Posters

The ISC Research Poster session is an excellent opportunity to present your latest research results, projects and innovations to a global audience, including your HPC peers. Poster authors will have the opportunity to give short presentations on their posters on June 18, and to informally present them to the attendees during all lunch and coffee breaks. Research posters are intended to cover all areas of interest as listed in the Call for Research Papers.

All submitted posters will be double-blind reviewed by at least three reviewers. The accepted research posters will be displayed from June 18 to June 19, 2019. The ISC organizers will sponsor the call for research posters with eight awards for outstanding research posters, namely the ISC Research Poster Awards.

Project Posters

The popular Project Poster session enables submitters to share their research ideas and projects at ISC. The session provides scientists with a platform for information exchange, whereas for the attendees it is an opportunity to gain an overview of new developments, HPC research and engineering activities. In contrast to the dissemination of research results in the research poster sessions, project posters enable participants to present ongoing and emerging projects by sharing fundamental ideas, methodology and preliminary work. Researchers with upcoming and recently funded projects are encouraged to submit a poster of their work. Those with novel project ideas are invited to present as well.

All accepted project posters will be displayed from June 17 through June 19, 2019, in the exhibition hall in a prominent spot. During the coffee breaks on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, ISC attendees will have the opportunity to meet the authors at their posters to discuss the projects.
